We recently experienced the joy of having ten fellow servants from Countryside join us for an excellent week of ministry here in Mochicahui. During the week we had the opportunity to serve over one hundred people who came for the free dental clinic that was held in our local church. Those who came served alongside people from our congregation here who made themselves available each day to serve the dental team and those who came to the clinic (some of our men even sacrificed paid work days to do so). This outreach event has served to open many doors to visit in the homes of people in our community and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. In addition to the three days of service open to the entire community, they served a fourth day treating students from the Christian school for deaf and at-risk children in the city of Los Mochis.
Roger Johansen, my fellow missionary pastor from Countryside who serves the Lord though church planting in Brazil also served as a part of the mission team. Preaching together with Pastor Roger was a joy for me and for our people who have been praying for him and their Brazilian brothers in Christ. Our bilingual Wednesday service was kind of a small taste of heaven for us, having members from both of our church families together praising our Lord. We closed that service with prayer in Spanish, Portuguese, English, ASL, and Mexican Sign Language.
Another recent blessing was the opportunity to receive new members in to the church. Tereso and Claudia along with their two daughters have been attending for several months. They live in a town near Mochicahui and are excited about using their gifts and abilities in service to our Lord. This semester we have also had an influx of young men visiting the church who have come to Mochicahui to study at the national Indian university. Please pray with us for the salvation and discipleship of these young men and others with whom I meet on a weekly basis to study God’s Word.
We ask that you continue to pray with us as we serve here and prepare for ministry opportunities in the coming weeks and months – weekly ladies Bible study, discipleship with individuals and couples, counseling, upcoming men and youth activities, next month’s children’s teacher training event, involvement in a pastors conference in the state of Sonora in early December, Arquimedes and Amy’s wedding (Dec. 21) and a wedding reception in Kansas (Dec. 28).
We are also preparing to begin a children’s Sunday school in January that will be held on the new church property. It will be kicked off with major children’s event on January 11. Over time it will be expanded for other age groups as well. Pray for this to be used as a vehicle to reach parents in that part of town as well and for us as we build the temporary and/or permanent structures that will be needed for shade as we begin utilizing the land given to us by the Lord for His service
