It is August already which means we are in the midst of our sizzling hot and humid Sinaloa summer.
Summertime is also when we get the opportunity to enjoy being part time parents to Chuy, Alejandro and Brayan for much of July and August. They, along with their “cousin” Max, spend much of their time swimming, digging, and jumping on the trampoline that we were given this past spring. They have also been enjoying the summer bible class for kids being taught by one of our youth at our home during the weekly ladies bible study that Danyel teaches.
As for other family news, by faith Daniel and Mariana moved to southern California this past month where Daniel has begun seminary studies towards his Master’s degree. We were blessed with the opportunity to see them briefly as they traveled through Arizona. Pray for the Lord’s direction for them as they secure housing and employment.
Also, for those who have not already heard, Amy is now engaged to be married to Arquimedes Lopez, a godly young man that we have watched grow and mature over the years since we came to live in Sinaloa. I actually had the privilege of baptizing him as well when he was younger. They are planning their wedding for December 21st.
Recently we had the opportunity to host a couple of former college students from the Indian College here in our home. One was a young lady who came to know Christ and was baptized during her time at our church. After graduating she returned to Baja California where she became actively involved in a local church. Most of the current students have gone home for summer break; we just heard that one young man named Carlos, who has been attending youth activities as well as Sunday and Wednesday services for a couple of months, has been sharing what he has been learning with his mother and brother and is trying to find a church for them to attend where they live. Carlos hasn’t yet come to confess Christ yet but will be returning to Mochicahui in September. Please keep him in your prayers.
In addition to our regular ministries here in Sinaloa, this summer has also provided some invitations to preach and teach in a couple of different locations in the state of Sonora. We are also excited about a new family that the Lord led into our church several weeks ago from a nearby community. They heard about us from an unbeliever who drives a cement truck. He had been apparently been carrying around a card that I had given him about a year and a half ago when he made a delivery to our house. We see the Lord’s sovereign hand in many ways as He chooses to direct lives in answer to prayer.
We are also seeing the Lord at work in the provision of property for His church here in Mochicahui. Depending on the final negotiations, exchange rates, and title fees it appears that we already have nearly all that will be needed to purchase the property that we mentioned in our last letter. We praise the Lord for the way He has provided through the sacrifices of His people! Please continue to pray with us as we finalize the details.
In less than three weeks we will be making a trip to Kansas to visit family and minister at Countryside, our home church. In the coming days we hope to be filling up our schedule to visit as many people as we can during our time among our Countryside family. It is always a joy and encouragement to be reunited with those we know and love as well as meet the newer members that the Lord has brought into the family. Please pray not only for our travels but for the men who will be preaching and teaching while we are away.
Your fellow servants,
Brian & Danyel
Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples.
For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.
– Psalm 96:3-4
