Deaf Ministries

Countryside is a church comprised of both hearing and deaf people. Together, we are a beautiful expression of the rich diversity that exists within the body of Christ.

Because of our shared identity in Christ, we believe the church is a united body of believers, whether deaf or hearing, who grow and mature together to be more like Jesus. Therefore, we are not a church with a “deaf ministry,” but rather a church that ministers alongside the deaf. Hearing and deaf people worship, serve, and fellowship together.

Our pastors preach the Bible in verse-by-verse sermons which are translated into ASL by our team of interpreters. Our deaf members teach classes in ASL and many of our hearing members have learned to sign.

Located less than 10 miles from the Kansas School for the Deaf, we are on the south side of Kansas City and serve the communities of Overland Park, Olathe, Gardner, Spring Hill, Edgerton, and Louisburg, Kansas.

Ways to Grow

Our 10:45am Sunday morning worship service is translated into ASL by one of Countryside’s interpreters. An ASL Sunday School class is also available during our 9:00am Sunday service.

ASL Sunday School

Every Sunday morning from 9:00-10:15am, one of our deaf men leads a Sunday School class that provides direct Bible instruction in ASL.

Deaf children are also involved in ministries at Countryside. Their classes have an ASL interpreter, or upon the parents’ request, a deaf teacher.

Sunday Morning Worship

Our 10:45am Sunday worship service is translated to ASL by our team of interpreters. A deaf coordinator works to facilitate clear, accurate, and consistent communication for these services each week. The entire service, from the worship songs to the sermon, is translated for our deaf members and visitors

Weekly Bible Studies

During the week, we hold Bible studies in ASL to facilitate a deeper understanding of God’s Word. These are either led by a deaf teacher or ASL interpretation is provided.

ASL Biblical Counseling

Free Biblical counseling services in ASL are offered by our pastors and certified Biblical counselors in our body. If you attend Countryside and are in need of ASL counseling, please contact the church office.

There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
